New earthquake in fencing six months before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The French Fencing Federation announced this Friday morning the provisional suspension of Ysaora Thibus, world champion in Cairo in 2022 and great chance of a gold medal this summer, due to a positive test.

“The French Fencing Federation has just been informed by the International Testing Agency acting on behalf of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) that foil fencer Ysaora Thibus was the subject of an inspection on January 14 having produced an abnormal analytical result,” indicated the FFE.

Thibus denies “any intentional act”

Leader of the French foil team, Ysaora Thibus “denies any intentional act of doping”, after this control carried out by the International Testing Agency (ITA) on January 14, while she participated in the Cup stage World Cup in Paris, qualifying for the Olympic Games, where the French team took second place behind Italy, a result which ensured Olympic qualification for Les Bleues.

The substance which led to this abnormal analytical result is not specified in the press release from the French fencing federation. For French fencing, this is a huge blow, Thibus being one of its headliners in the discipline for many years.
