UD Ibiza Volley seeks support to organize the promotion phase to the Super League

UD Ibiza Volley has already started talks with the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation to find out the requirements and obligations that come with being able to host the 2023-24 promotion phase to the men’s Super League. In its double objective of recovering the lost prestige and returning to the highest category of national volleyball, the Ibizan club is trying to gather support to organize a promotion ‘play-off’ that will take place the last weekend of April with the presence of six squads with the first two finishers from each of the three groups that make up the category.

After the agonizing but transcendental comeback achieved last weekend in Zaragoza (2-3), the team coached by Martín Bermejo and Genaro López continues to be just one point behind the leader of group C, Instercap Asisa Tarragona, and leads the third place by five, the Familycash Xátiva VB, when there are only seven days left until the end of the regular phase. Defeating bottom team Tenerife next Saturday would put the classification even more in perspective.

«We are in positions to compete in the promotion phase with a difference that allows us to be excited. There are many options to qualify and we want to have the possibility of hosting that promotion phase to the Super League,” admits the manager of UD Ibiza Volley, Sebastián López, who explains that they have until March 17 to present the candidacy. For this, López maintains, the Federation “asks for different requirements such as offering hotel availability at good prices, transportation, logistics, maintenance… In addition to paying a federation fee and complying with standards in terms of marketing, signage or lighting.”

The director of the club based in es Viver pavilion, where the promotion phase would be held, assures that they already have the commitment of the institutions to collaborate with the organization of the event, but calls on the private sector so that the Ibizan candidacy goes ahead. «We need competitive prices to mobilize about 100 people, plus companions and fans. For that we need private support. We believe that it would be the end of the party for this season and hopefully we will achieve the goal of promotion,” underlines Sebastián López after remembering that in this “successful but also laborious” season of reconversion, UD Ibiza Volley has 170 players in its organizational chart, returned the senior teams to the Balearic competitions, has a presence in schools as well as recreational beach volleyball social groups, and is preparing to launch a volleyball group for the elderly.
