«Tuawa’s support will be very beneficial to grow more»

The 6th Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana Féminas – Gran Premio Tuawa will share the route for another year with the 5th stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. The departure will take place in Bétera and the unprecedented arrival will be in the Port of València, after 93 kilometers of travel. There will be two mountain passes such as l’Oronet and La Frontera, a 5 kilometer climb with gradients of 18%. Floortje Mackaij is the current champion of an event that was a pioneer in equating both route and monetary prize with the parallel men’s event.

Silvia Tirado, director of the VCV Féminas, wanted to highlight what the sponsorship of Global Omnium Tuawa means for this test: «It was great news when they told me that they were joining the race. I think five editions have passed and we have shown that we are an event that improves year after year, something that is reflected in the winners’ record. That Global Omnium Tuawa gives its name to our test is an extra that gives us more strength to make this edition more special. They are already in the men’s VCV led by Ángel Casero and I think they have seen that all our efforts are, for and for, improving and giving visibility to all the cyclists in the world. Our test includes live broadcast to different countries around the world and will make Tuawa visible in any corner of the world. We are pioneers in equal prizes, infrastructure and having live broadcasts. “Everything together, together with the support of Tuawa, will be very beneficial to continue growing.”

Since its birth in 2019, the VCV Féminas have brought together the best cyclists from the national and international peloton: «We have 20 teams and a total of 120 riders from all corners of the world. On Sunday we will see the winner of last year’s edition, Floortje Mackaij from Movistar, without forgetting the Spanish Ane Santesteban (Laboral Kutxa) and the Valencian runner Marta Romeu. Giving many names is difficult because we are at the beginning of the season and there are always surprises. What we are sure of is that whoever wins will be a rider we will hear about throughout the season.”

Regarding a possible increase in stages in the future, Tirado highlighted: «This test is marked by the men’s race and, today, we have to be realistic and we cannot think about increasing a stage. The VCV is a family and we cannot double our numbers to have more days. In my mind is being able to increase the days of competition if it is not in Valencia, in another of the provinces and outside of the boys’ week. The VCV Féminas is what it is for everything, its essence is that of a one-day race and you can look for more days of competition at another time of the season and giving the importance that the cyclists deserve.

Under the motto ‘I am going’, the organization of the event, together with its main collaborator in the women’s event, Tuawa by Global Omnium, calls on Sunday, February 4, to all sports lovers to join the this call: both to all Valencian territorial sports federations and to anonymous athletes, whether professional or amateur of any discipline. The aim is to concentrate the largest number of female athletes in La Marina de Valencia, at 11:00 a.m., at the end of the stage of the 6th Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana Féminas – Gran Premio Tuawa, with the finish line at Shed 2 of the Port From Valencia. «Anything that involves attracting women’s sports on Sunday is a super positive initiative. Women’s sport is at a very important point and the modality does not matter, we have to support each other and get to know other athletes. Without a doubt I join that call and I hope to be able to meet many athletes next Sunday. Promoting all the values of sport makes us grow as people and sport does not understand age or sex but I am not deceiving you if I dream that on Sunday there will be a large platoon of women at the arrival in Valencia », she concluded.
