Balonmano Guadalajara Clinches Promotion to ASOBAL After Intense Victory Over UBU San Pablo Burgos

UBU San Pablo Burgos was unable to defeat Balonmano Guadalajara (26-27) in a very intense match, where the leader of the category confirmed promotion to ASOBAL next season with this victory.

A high-tension duel began, where in the first minutes the nervousness of both teams was noticeable. Burgos struck first but the early exclusion of Ernesto López in the 2nd minute allowed Guadalajara to quickly tie at 1.

With a very serious defense, Burgos took advantage on the scoreboard again and again, with Guadalajara tying the game, until in the 15th minute, the Alcarreños took the lead on the scoreboard for the first time (9-10).

Guadalajara knew how to take advantage of their superiority on the court until they were two up (9-11) but Burgos did not lose face of the match and overcame that result against them.

The moments of high pace of play and good local defense kept the leader at bay in El Plantío, until the result at half-time was 15-15.

Already in the second half, Burgos took the initiative, with minutes where they went two up. Then Juan Carlos Requena called a timeout to prevent that advantage from increasing in the 37th minute, with the score 19-17.

With 15 minutes left, when the Cidianians maintained a one-point advantage, and after not being able to take advantage of the superiority after the exclusion of Llorens, Balonmano Guadalajara took the lead on the scoreboard. As the minutes passed, the Guadalajara team opened a three-goal gap.

Roi Sánchez called a timeout with the score at 21-24 and the indications worked for the Cidianians, who managed to overcome those three goals against with 5 minutes left.

But the details marked the outcome of the match, and several errors in front of goal left the two points in the hands of Balonmano Guadalajara, and therefore direct promotion, with the final result of 26-27.

Roi Sánchez after the game: “I am satisfied with the team’s dedication. Now another possibility opens up to us, in a play-off that has to be played in a month and we have to prepare well. And finish the regular league thinking about the play-off as best as possible to see if we can be second and we can choose to organize it, because I continue to insist that at home we are very strong.”

The next UBU San Pablo Burgos match will be next Saturday, May 4, starting at 7:00 p.m. against Unión Financiera Balonmano Base Oviedo.
