The BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen Hosts Orange Academy in Swabian Derby

The BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen hosted the Orange Academy on Saturday evening.

Another home game highlight is on the agenda for BG Hessing Leitershofen/Stadtbergen on Saturday evening in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga. The Orange Academy, the farm team of the reigning German champions ratiopharm Ulm, is a guest in the Stadtberg sports hall. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.

Just two weeks after the impressive match in front of 1,122 spectators against FC Bayern Munich Basketball II, Kangaroos fans can look forward to another derby, this time an all-Swabian duel. From a purely sporting perspective, the task doesn’t get much easier. The Ulm team are ranked third in the table and, after one or two slip-ups by the two leaders Rhöndorf and Erfurt, are already within striking distance of these teams. Also because the Orange Academy surprisingly won 84:78 away in Rhöndorf last week and didn’t have the double licensed players from the BBL on board. Because, compared to many other farm teams, they can’t complain about their appearances in the first team. The location on the Danube is considered a good platform to give the top players from PRO B real playing time in the 1st Bundesliga or the European Cup.

Kangoroos expect Ulm young players of top caliber

The outstanding quintet of Ulm double license players consists of Maximilian Langenfeld (20 years/198cm), Noa Essengue (17/205), Alec Anigbata (19/204), Seikou Sisoho Jawara (23/190) and Philipp Hecker (22/192). All players score on average in the high double-digit range. The Spaniard Jawara wasn’t there for the Kangaroos’ unfortunate 99:102 defeat in the first half of the season, but the other four players scored an incredible 90 points together. Supertalent Essengue was hard to stop. The Frenchman is even considered a future NBA player among experts. Behind the quintet there are a huge number of other highly talented players waiting for their chance. The 16-year-old junior national player Jervis Scheffs scored 21 points last week in Rhöndorf.

BG General Manager Wayne Chico Pittman, a proven expert on German youth basketball, is therefore looking forward to the game. “For me personally, the highlight of the season is not FC Bayern, but the game against Orange Academy. I see this program as currently leading in Germany, so our fans can look forward to another cracker. But we are also hot, the self-inflicted defeat in the first leg after a good performance is still weighing on us. “We have lost all three duels against Ulm since promotion,” said Pittman, hoping for his first win on Saturday evening against the Swabians from Württemberg, whose Orange Campus is located in Neu-Ulm on Bavarian-Swabian territory.

Victory important for the fight for the playoffs

The match is of enormous importance for the BG. Because the euphoria after the win against Bayern was quickly lost after the away game in Frankfurt. Especially in the first half, the Main team did not present themselves in a second division format; the good playing performance of the previous week, as well as their accuracy, seemed to have been blown away. As a result, the coaching team tried to prepare the game quickly and look ahead. BG head coach Emanuel Richter: “Another derby, another game, another final for us in the fight for the playoffs. There will be another spectacle, we are relying on our fans.”

A look at the table shows how important a win would be. The BG is listed in seventh place, with four teams lurking right behind it. So five teams are fighting for two playoff places. However, the three teams in front of the BG only have one more win to their name. After six home wins in a row, the Stadtbergers want to further improve their position with their seventh win, knowing full well that there will only be two home and four away games left on the program.

Admission to the hall is on Saturday evening from 6:15 p.m. In the preliminary game there is a derby in the Swabian district league. Here the second team from Leitershofen meets the third team, both teams play in the same league. Those responsible at the BG recommend purchasing tickets online given the already good advance ticket sales. The box office will also be open. The BG also asks spectators to keep the reserved seats in the middle block free for season ticket holders, at least until the game has started. (asan)
