Sergio del Sol Wins Silver in Judo at Central American and Caribbean Games

Guanajuato.- The third medal arrived for Guanajuato in the Judo discipline at the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, through Sergio del Sol, who took silver in the judo discipline +100kg category.

The heavyweight fight for gold met the expectations of the category, since it pitted the world champion last year and the champion in the last edition of the Pan American Games, the Cuban Andy Grana, against the Mexican Sergio del Sol, which has been its main contender in the most recent competitions.

However, the judges sanctioned Sergio with four shidos, which meant victory for the Cuban by hansoku make.

“It was a bit bittersweet fight, I did well with my performance but I should have won, that was my goal when I got here. He is the world champion, he has had great performances on the circuit, unfortunately the result did not happen, but let’s go to continue working to make it different,” said Sergio at the end of the fight.

To reach the final, Sergio del Sol defeated the Jamaican Steven Moore by means of ippon with 1:42 left in the quarterfinal match, while in the semifinals he won the same way against the Venezuelan Luis Amézquita with 2 left: 08 in combat.
