Santiago tennis player triumphs over American opponent at Kigali Challenger

The tennis player from Santiago won by a double 6-4 over the American Noah Schachter.

Argentine tennis players Marco Trungelliti and Juan Pablo Paz advanced to the round of 16 of the Challneger in Kigali, Rwanda, on a clay surface and with prizes of 41,000 euros.

Trungelliti, born in Santiago del Estero and ranked 220th in the ATP world ranking, beat the American Noah Schachter (859), who emerged from the classification, 6-4 and 6-4 in an hour and a half of play.

The 34-year-old from Santiago will play his next match against Frenchman Emilien Voisin (545), who beat Tunisian Aziz Ouakaa (761) by a comfortable 6-2, 6-1.

Paz (589), for his part, born in Berazategui 29 years ago, defeated the Moroccan Mohamed Safwat (363) 7-6 (11-9) and 6-1 after one hour and 32 minutes of play.

Paz will play in the round of 16 against the Polish Kamil Majchrzak (652), who beat the Russian Bogdan Bobrov (388) 6-3 and 6-2.

Majchrzak, 28 years old and former number 75 in the world ranking, is fully returning to the circuit after having served a 12-month suspension for having failed four anti-doping tests in 2022.

For his part, another Argentine, Hernán Casanova (366), 29 years old, was eliminated after losing in the initial round to Frenchman Corentin Denolly (442) by 7-6 (7-2) and 7-5.
