Possible title: “Bundesliga Clubs on Track to Break Sales Record in 2022/23 Season, Could Reach 4.3 Billion Euros”

Did the 18 Bundesliga clubs set a new sales record in the past 2022/23 season? There are many signs that the four billion euro barrier will be clearly broken.

What the German Beletage has only managed once to date was in the 2018/19 season, when the Bundesliga reported 4.02 billion euros in its economic report. This was followed by seasons marked by the corona pandemic and thus a decline to 3.8 (2019/20) and 3.47 billion euros (2020/21). The slight recovery in 2021/22, when 3.61 billion euros were recorded, is now likely to be followed by strong growth.

Will the 4 billion euro mark be broken again?

Judging by the publications of 15 of the 18 clubs surrounding the annual general and members’ meetings in recent months, as well as based on estimates relating to RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg, the league could even report 4.3 billion euros. The estimates mentioned are necessary because RB does not make its figures available to the general public before publication in the Federal Gazette and the figures of the two factory clubs are included in the respective consolidated balance sheets of Bayer and Volkswagen AG.

According to kicker research, RB will have sales of around 450 million euros for the whole of 2023. So far, however, the Saxons have based their balance sheets on a seasonal basis, with sales of 349 million euros in 2021/22. In this respect, the “golden mean” of around 400 million euros for the 2022/23 season could come close to reality – but in the end that also depends on which season the million-dollar sales of Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City), Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool FC). ) and Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea FC) can be booked. At Bayer, estimates assume a similar turnover to 2021/22 (271.3 million euros), while at VfL there is a slight decline to around 230 million euros after 251.3 million euros in the previous year.

Bavaria and BVB are driving growth

The growth drivers are primarily the industry giants FC Bayern (854.2 million) and Borussia Dortmund (515.4 million; all figures including transfers), each of which set records, but also the fact that with the Bundesliga returnees at the time Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen, two clubs with high sales, were promoted and two clubs with comparatively low sales, Greuther Fürth and Arminia Bielefeld, had to go to the lower house. The figures that the clubs submit to the DFL as part of the licensing process and which are ultimately shown in the economic report differ slightly from the totals published by the MV due to the methodology, so no very specific forecast can be made.
