New Era for the Charlotte Hornets: Management Changes and Future Prospects

A few months ago the announcement of the sale of the franchise began a new era for the Charlotte Hornets. The consequences have not been long in coming, with the team disintegrating its main core except for LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. Shortly after the market closed, Mitch Kupchak announced his resignation as president of operations. Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin, the new owners, have already begun the search for a replacement and, for now, Elton Brand and Trajan Langdon.

The brand new property is looking for a manager with extensive experience in the NBA. Brand, who played in North Carolina for Duke University, has been at the head of the Philadelphia Sixers management and now occupies one of the most important positions on the team led by Daryl Morey. His specific job is that of general manager.

As for Trajan Langdon, once again a Duke product, he is Brand’s namesake on the New Orleans Pelicans. The manager has been David Griffin’s number two since 2019 and is one of the management’s great specialists in choosing talent in the Draft (Herb Jones, Trey Murphy III, Jose Alvarado…). Among his achievements is G League Manager of the Year in the 2018-19 season, which ended up elevating him to his current position.

The Charlotte Observer also highlights other candidates such as Milt Newton (assistant GM in Milwaukee and former GM of Minnesota), Jeff Peterson (assistant GM in Brooklyn and close to Rick Scnall from his time in Atlanta) and Frank Zanin (assistant Leon Rose in New York with 22 years of experience in league offices).
