NEC Defender Philippe Sandler Confident Ahead of Match Against Ajax

Philippe Sandler thinks there is something to be gained from Ajax on Sunday. The NEC defender has complete confidence in his team.

The people of Nijmegen are absolutely not afraid of the away match at Ajax. “It’s in the Arena, those are certainly fun matches. I think it’s up to us. If we play our own game, there is certainly something to be achieved,” Sandler expects in conversation with the Gelderlander. NEC has had much more time to prepare, but he says that makes little difference. “Ajax is used to playing during the week, so I don’t think they are tired.”

The 27-year-old center defender is developing excellently and is even linked to a transfer to Sunday’s opponent, where he already played in youth. “That’s nice, but I try to focus on NEC. I had a great time at Ajax, I learned a lot there,” he admits. “I often played in midfield at the time, but later in life I only started playing at the center back. But that certainly laid the foundation for how I play now.”
