With more than 120 members, the Boé Judo Club, chaired by Sébastien Billières and Elyasid Ismail, is doing well.
All audiences without age limits are invited to participate free of charge in the lesson times of each of the disciplines practiced in the dojo located in Cancelles-Boé (near the football fields). Regarding judo, children aged 4 to 6 can learn on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. or Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., those aged 7 to 12, Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. p.m. and, from 13 years old, Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. as well as Thursday at the same time with introduction to Sambo – a mixture of judo, boxing and wrestling close to MMA practiced on Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (from 18 years old). Taïso cross-training (fitness) can be done on Monday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. or Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Finally, self-defense Jiu-jitsu is taught on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All these disciplines are supervised by qualified teachers.
Leisure and competition club
If a large majority of Judo Club Boé members practice their sport leisurely with the aim of pleasure and health, a few young people, in particular, participate in competitions. Recently three juniors from the club were able to qualify for the tri-departmental zone phase (Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantique and Lot-et-Garonne) which took place in Dax. Isaure Billières triumphed in her category – 57 kg while Amira Ismail (-78 kg) and Nassim Kaibou (-90 kg) climbed to the third step of the podium. At the Grand Sud-Ouest championship in Lormont on February 17 and 18, they were unable to repeat their exploits. Roland Alias, their teacher several times French champion, explains: “the level was really very high. Most of the young people are in sports studies and train all week while our young judokas only have two sessions per week .”
However, around fifteen judokas will continue to evolve in junior-senior, second division for the rest of the season.
