The Italian Youth National Team of the Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Martial Arts Federation – FIJLKAM “conquered Europe” during the Continental Championship, held from 09 to 11 February at the sports facility in the capital Tbilisi, Georgia.
In the competition of the team Kata “form” specialty, for the Cadet/Junior class (16-17 years), Italy presented a team made up of 4 athletes, among these Leonardo BOMBARDI athlete of the ASD Army – 187 Folgore of Livorno.
During the preliminaries, the Italian team clearly dominated. In the course of its group, it brilliantly overcame Turkey and Croatia, and then excelled in the final match against the strong Spanish team, thus winning the title of European team champion.
In the specialty of Kumite, “controlled contact combat”, the young athlete Jacopo CITI of ASD 187 achieved 9th position in the Cadet class (14-15 years), weight – 52 Kg. during the fight with a Georgian athlete, Jacopo he suffered a temporary injury which prevented him from continuing the competition for the bronze medal, thanks to the repechage.
The Italian delegation, made up of athletes, managers, technicians and race officials, brought home 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 9 bronze medals.
For the athletes of the ASD Army – 187 Folgore, the journey continues in the “ranking 2024” merit list circuit for the selection of the Italian team, which is preparing for the World Championship scheduled for Jesolo – Venice next October.
