Last year, developers at San Diego Studio introduced a new historical mode MLB Die Show 23. Storylines: Negro Leagues Season 1 immerses players in the careers of players like Satchel Paige, John Donaldson and Martin Dihigo. It was an opportunity for MLB The Show players to learn about some of the lesser-known players from the sport’s history in a way that was as entertaining as it was educational. Recently, San Diego Studio officially announced that Storylines is coming back for a second season and revealed the first four players whose stories will be available MLB Die Show 24. One of them is the first woman to consistently play baseball at the major level.
MLB Die Show 24 Storylines: Negro League Season 2 roster
The first four players announced for Season 2 of Storylines: Negro Leagues will all be available on launch day. Several more players will follow in later content drops, keeping the mode in players’ minds all year long. The four players available to start are Josh Gibson, Buck Leonard, Hank Aaron and Toni Stone.
Stone played for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953, becoming the first woman to play professional baseball regularly at the major level. She even reportedly hit a fastball from Satchel Paige during a friendly game. She also signed with the Kansas City Monarchs in 1954, where Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Hilton Smith and Buck O’Neil, among others, spent their time. Unfortunately she didn’t have much playing time there and left after the season.
Most baseball fans will know Hammerin’ Hank Aaron. The Braves’ long-time right fielder retired as a 25-time All-Star and all-time home run champion, but began his career with the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro Leagues. He only played there for a few years before moving to the MLB, where his historic career began.
The other two players both spent a lot of time with the Homestead Grays. Leonard is widely known as one of the best fastball hitters in baseball history. He won three Negro World Series and made the All-Star team eleven times. His teammate Josh Gibson was even better and is often considered one of the greatest power hitters in baseball history. Although his numbers cannot be verified, there are claims that Gibson hit around 800 home runs throughout his career, which if that number is correct would easily make him the record holder.
San Diego Studio will reveal the next three Negro League players as part of a content release in early April. Then three more players will be dropped at the end of May while we are in the middle of the MLB schedule. This means the mode allows you to play through nine different careers, which is one more than last year. We’re hoping to see players like Oscar Charleston, Cool Papa Bell and Willie Wells round out this year’s group. We also need at least one pitcher from the group, which makes Smokey Joe Williams and Leon Day interesting options.
