Inclusive Archery: A New Opportunity for Rehabilitation and Integration at IGSS

The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) seeks to achieve inclusion and that is why it began to promote the practice of archery, the first sport that was adapted for people with disabilities in the world. .

According to the IGSS, the purpose is to provide individual work to users regardless of age, gender or physical condition. “This discipline can be practiced by a wide segment of people with disabilities, people with motor deficiencies or people with disabilities,†it was detailed in a press release.

According to Dr. Karina Rodriguez, medical director of the hospital, the aim is to “give fundamental hope such as the integration and improvement of the athlete as an individual.”

Blanca Oliva, one of the patients, was enthusiastic and happy about practicing this sport. “I liked getting to know this sport and that the hospital includes it is something positive for us, the patients, because the fact of being hospitalized here helps us change our minds and take it as part of our therapy for rehabilitation, not only physical, but but emotional,” he emphasized.
