MADRID, 29 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canadian cyclist Alison Jackson (Education First Cannondale) achieved victory in the second stage of the Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour, held between the towns of Bunyol (Valencia9 and Moncofa (Castellón) over 118.3 kilometers, after winning the sprint at the Hungarian Blanka Vas (SD Worx), new leader of the race for bonuses, and Dutch Karlijn Swinkels (UAE).

The Canadian champion and winner of the Paris Roubaix in 2023, raised her arms in Moncofa after a tight sprint that was reached with a very small group after two falls that occurred with less than three kilometers to go before the finish line, in the that cyclists such as the Dutch Marianne Vos (Visma) were involved.

The Italian Gaia Realini, who took the leader’s jersey after the victory of her team, Lidl-Trek, in the initial team time trial this Sunday, lost the lead, which falls to less than Blanka Vas thanks to bonuses of the arrival and an intermediate sprint with eight seconds on Jackson and nine on the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek).

The escape of the day was carried out by the cyclists Idoia Eraso (Laboral Kutxa), Silvia Zanardi (Human Powered Health), Angela Oro (Bepink-Bongioanni), Valerie Demey (VolkerWessels), Audrey De Keersmaeker (Lotto Dstny Ladies) and Marine Allione ( Winspace), who had almost three minutes of advantage.

After more than 50 kilometers of adventure, they were neutralized in the only climb of the day, the 3rd category Puerto de l’Orenet, in which Visma set a strong pace to make the final selection and which was crowned in first place by Karlijn Swinkels, who becomes the first leader of the mountain classification. From there, several fruitless attacks until the finish and a sprint with a small group after an attack by the Serbian Jelena Eric (Movistar Team).

“Having a victory this season in La Vuelta a España is another incredible thing to put in the summary. Both staff and teammates have supported me a lot in this victory, and I am glad to be able to repay their trust,” declared Jackson after taking his first stage win in the Spanish round.

The Canadian confessed that she had to be “very careful” with the rain during the stage and be “in the right position at the right time,” and thanked her teammates for taking care of her “from the beginning to the end.”

The Vuelta will compete in its third stage tomorrow, starting in the Alicante town of Lucena and ending in Teruel, a mid-mountain day with only one scoring climb, in which cyclists like the winner of the last Tour de France, Demi Vollering, could have your chance to shine.
