Former world number 10 Emma Raducanu will face Anhelina Kalinina in the first round of the Qatar Open this Sunday. Raducanu made her return to the circuit last month in Auckland after being constantly injured last year. She only participated in five WTA tournaments in 2023 and finished in the fourth round in Indian Wells, which was her best performance. The British will enter the Qatar Open after leaving the 2024 Australian Open and the Abu Dhabi Open prematurely. She began her participation in Abu Dhabi with a solid victory over Marie Bouzkova, but lost to Ons Jabeur in the second round. The Tunisian number 1 beat Raducanu in straight sets. For her part, Anhelina Kalinina had a promising year in 2023, with 27 victories in 51 matches and a finalist place at the Italian Open. She also reached the quarterfinals of the Hobart International and the third round of the Australian Open. The Ukrainian will enter the Qatar Open after being eliminated in the second round in Abu Dhabi. Anhelina Kalinina outclassed Lucia Bronzetti in the first round, but lost to Russian Liudmila Samsonova in the second, with the eighth seed beating Kalinina in straight sets. Even if the WTA ranking is in favor of the young Ukrainian, it does not reflect the current level of the British woman. She could logically win in this first round of the Qatar Open.
