Dominican Sprinter Fiordaliza Cofil’s Suspension Lifted by World Athletics

The International Athletics Federation (World Athletics) has lifted the suspension that weighed on the Dominican Fiordaliza Cofil due to her high hormonal levels, the Ministry of Sports of the Dominican Republic reported this Friday.

In a message from its X account and with a photo of the athlete, the ministry expresses its satisfaction with this news: «#Congratulations. Fiordaliza Cofil’s suspension is lifted and she can compete again in official World Athletics events. Good news”.

Cofil, gold medalist in the mixed 4×400 relay at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, was removed from competitions six months ago due to the Difference in Sexual Development (DSD) rule of World Athletics ( WA), which regulates the testosterone production levels of athletes.

This athlete, considered the highest level Dominican athlete in the 400 meters after Marileidy Paulino, has undergone medical treatment to regulate excessive production of testosterone, incompatible with the regulations of the International Federation.

World Athletics decided that Cofil should undergo medical procedures to reduce his testosterone levels to 2.5 nanomoles/liter for 24 months.

Due to her suspension, the sprinter could not be part of the Dominican delegation in 2023 at the last Pan American Games or at the World Cup in Budapest.
