Death of Artur Jorge, former PSG coach and 1994 French champion

The Portuguese Artur Jorge died this Thursday. It was the family of the former coach of Matra-Racing and Paris-SG who made it public via a press release: “It is with deep sadness that the family of Artur Jorge Braga de Melo Teixeira communicates his disappearance this morning in Lisbon, following a long illness. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. »

Former striker for Porto, Benfica and Belenenses, Artur Jorge, who celebrated his 78th birthday on February 13, distinguished himself during a long coaching career, including two stints with Paris-SG (1991). -1994 then 1998-99), but also FC Porto (1984-1987 then 1989-1991), Matra-Racing (1987-1989), Benfica (1994-95), the Portuguese selection (1996-97), US Créteil (2006-07). His coaching career also saw him enjoy a double experience in Saudi Arabia, between 1999 and 2001 at Al Nasr then Al Hilal, but also in Russia (2003-04) and at the head of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon (2004 -2006).

Artur Jorge won the Champions Cup in 1987 with Porto, thanks to a brilliant backheel from Rabah Madjer (2-1 against Bayern Munich). The Portuguese technician also won the Coupe de France in 1993 and the Championship in 1994 on the PSG bench. His last mission? At the head of Mouloudia of Algiers in 2014-2015.
