Club Brugge’s Transfer Failures: Yaremchuk and Sowah Disappoint at High Costs

Club Brugge will soon receive the jackpot for Igor Thiago, and in the near future Antonio Nusa, among others, will probably also make the cash register ring. Yet even Blauw-Zwart regularly misses the mark in the transfer market.

For example, Vincent Mannaert set a record of no less than 17 million for Roman Yaremchuk a year and a half ago, who never managed to justify that price tag. The 28-year-old Ukrainian is loaned without an option to Valencia, where he hopes to stay.

Standard dumps Sowah

So we have to wait and see whether Yaremchuk will return to Jan Breydel. Who we can certainly expect back there next summer is Kamal Sowah, who, with his transfer fee of nine million, could also call himself the most expensive acquisition in club history.

The very expensive flop was loaned to Standard this season, but with two goals in 20 appearances, things are not going well there either. The evening now dares to claim that his purchase clause of around three million will certainly not be lifted.

Future in Bruges?

Due to a lack of alternatives, Sowah started in four of the six matches under new coach Ivan Leko. Although there is little to criticize about his efforts, the performance of the 24-year-old Ghanaian is particularly disappointing.

Add to this the financial troubles in Sclessin and you understand why the versatile attacker will not be taken over permanently. Club Brugge will therefore have to look elsewhere for a solution for Sowah, who is still in Jan Breydel until mid-2025.
