FC Bayern Munich has strongly condemned racist comments against defender Dayot Upamecano on social media. “This is despicable. This type of racist mob, this is not our world. This is not FC Bayern. This is something we will not put up with,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen in the team hotel after the 0-1 defeat Champions League round of 16 first leg against Lazio.

Upamecano was sent off after a foul in the final third of the game. The subsequent penalty led to the decisive goal for Lazio. Dreesen described Upamecano’s entry against Rome’s Ciro Immobile as “unfortunate”.

Immediately after the game, FC Bayern condemned the insults against Upamecano on X as “absolutely despicable”. “Anyone who makes comments like that is not a fan of our club. We stand behind you, Upa!”
