The report, in this case, comes from Veglie. For a few days now, a video has been circulating insistently on social channels depicting the car just described and one of the three subjects, quite clearly immortalized by a camera. The case is linked by citizens to a series of thefts that allegedly occurred in the area. LeccePrima carried out its checks and discovered that the story dates back to the early evening of Friday 2 February and that the thefts were only attempted. Indeed, right in embryo. Because twice the subjects completely failed. In fact, after ringing the doorbell of some homes, the residents answered. And at that point, off you go without even attempting to break in.

Little doubt that they were malicious. If only because on one occasion they invented an excuse for having disturbed the house (“we are looking for a mechanic”), on another a different and more banal one (“we have the wrong address”). All this, within a few minutes from one episode to another, between Via Dante Alighieri and the surrounding area.

Cases in prime time

The cases occurred around 6.30pm on Friday. And it went like this. On a first occasion, the Audi approached a house overlooking the ground floor. Two men remained in the car, only the third, who was sitting in the back seat, came out to use the intercom. With a cautious air he approached the doorbell, took a first look around, then, with more determination, approached to ring the doorbell.

There was a woman in the house and, at that point, the man asked if there was a mechanic nearby. But there are none in the area and the question must have seemed suspicious. Not only. Perhaps also aware of the presence of a private camera, the subject eventually got back into the car, which then left, however, only to travel a short distance. Audi arrived under the second objective, same script. With the difference that here there was a young man, who must have immediately understood what the true intention of those men was, so much so that he “urged” them to leave. And the escape, improvising that they had the wrong address, was even quicker in this case.

Notified the police

All this, in fact, dates back to Friday, the day on which no thefts were actually committed, and the incidents were reported to the police at the local station. This does not exclude that the technique may have had effects elsewhere. Gangs of this type usually move from one municipality to another. Well, then, pay attention to the mode of operation, far from modern, but evergreen. Also because surprises are always lurking.

Just think of what happened last October in Melendugno, where a woman didn’t answer the intercom, the thieves thought the house was empty and so they tried to force the entrances with her inside, scared, who immediately made contact with vigilance and strength of the order. They didn’t get caught for long.
