Belgian Archer De Smedt Narrowly Misses Out on Round of 16 at Tokyo Olympics

After achieving the 16th best score (572) in qualifying on Tuesday, De Smedt, who played in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics (he ranked 17th), was opposed to Croatian Adam Gradiscak, 841st in the world, and 17th in qualifying. (569). The Antwerp resident lost in the tie-break 10-9, the two archers were tied 5-5 after the five series of three arrows (27-29, 29-29, 29-27, 27-28 and 29- 27).

Gradiscak will meet in the round of 16 the Italian Matteo Borsani, 130th in the world ranking, author of the best qualifying score (592) and therefore exempt from the round of 16.

Sarah Prieels qualified Wednesday morning for the quarter-finals of the women’s individual compound event, a non-Olympic discipline.
