Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen Discusses Thomas Tuchel’s Departure and Future Plans for the Team

According to Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, an immediate farewell to Thomas Tuchel was not an issue in the conversation with the outgoing coach. “We decided – as described in the press release – to separate amicably in the summer. Everything else – such as the alleged offer to separate immediately – is nonsense,” said Dreesen in an interview with the Bild newspaper.

The Munich team announced last Wednesday that they wanted to make a change to the coaching position after the season. There was then speculation that Tuchel had also been offered an immediate separation. The 50-year-old’s contract would actually have run until 2025. Bayern, who are eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and have to make up a 1-0 deficit in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Lazio on March 5, are facing their first titleless season in twelve years.

Dreesen reported on a “one-on-one conversation” with Tuchel in which the decision was made. “I had a good conversation with Thomas over lunch on Tuesday. It was about many things, not just the early separation in the summer: how he sees his situation, how he assesses the team, the analysis that Thomas also talked about “I also explained my perspective to him. We created clarity together,” Dreesen explained.

The team was informed together about the impending separation. “It was a short-term decision that we did this before training. But the team should find out about the decision from us, not from the media,” said Dreesen: “I made the players responsible, because there is no one in this situation “We are solely to blame. But I also appealed to the fact that we can still achieve something and that we will never give up. With a view to the Champions League: We absolutely want to reach the quarter-finals in the second leg against Lazio Rome.”
