The Saint-Brieuc secular badminton association is organizing, Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26, the second edition of the Griffon national tournament. A tournament that is gaining momentum since the number of players increases from 250 in 2023 to 350 this year.
“This is the maximum capacity that we can commit,” explains Stanislas Raud, the president. “We have badistas who come from Strasbourg, Arras, Montrouge, Cabourg and even Issy-les-Moulineaux, but also from all over Brittany. In total, 63 clubs are represented. » The competition is open from level N1 to unclassified. Note the presence of Bastian Kersaudy, French champion in men’s doubles.
Over 500 matches!
The day of Saturday May 25 will be devoted to singles and mixed. The competitions will take place on fourteen courts, in Steredenn for one part and in La Vallée for another. “To manage these 519 matches, we are supported by 40 volunteers,” says the president.
Sunday May 26 will be open to doubles. The Briochine headliner, Martin Bellot, has a good card to play in his category to remain master at home, he who bagged a triple success at the Brittany junior championship, in February in Kervignac, where he won the titles of the singles, doubles and mixed. Lily Gautier, who won the bronze medal in doubles at the U15 European Championships in Spain, is not to be outdone. She will be one of the favorites for this second edition which will highlight the organizational qualities of all the volunteers.
After these two days which promise to be very physical, AL Badminton Saint-Brieuc will continue on June 2 with the organization of the Côtes-d’Armor championship: 100 players have announced their arrival.
