Terracina-Maccarese, Cup: in the final with the push of the Curva

Terracina returns to play in the final of the Lazio Italian Amateur Cup (Eccellenza) after twenty-eight years, thanks to the three goals scored against W3 Maccarese in the second leg semi-final played at the “Colavolpe”, with which the tigrotti overturned the narrow defeat of the first leg .

It was January 6, 1996 when the Tyrrhenian supporters packed the stands of the glorious “Flaminio” in Rome for the last final played by the Anxurians, who on that occasion challenged Anziolavinio. The cup was won by the Neronians, but Terracina still managed to climb into the then National Amateur Championship, winning group B of the Lazio Eccellenza with 13 points ahead of the pursuing Pro Cisterna. After that promotion, Terracina would play eight consecutive seasons in the Interregional, coming close to C2 in 1997-1998, in a tournament which saw the Biancocelesti place in third place behind Giugliano and Campobasso, after having fought for a long time for final victory (Casertana and Latina were also present in that group).

Returning to the present, the response of the Terracino public to this return semi-final is one of the important ones: 1,200 spectators crowd the steps of the stadium in Via Ceccaccio, a significant figure when compared to the category and the working day.

When the teams enter the pitch, the Terracine ultras color the curve with flags, flags and double-pole banners, then create a splendid tricolor smoke display, which replicates the one from the first leg. At the same time they unfurled a banner, which reads: “One curve, one team, one city… together we win the final”.

During the first half the Sea Curve carries out high-level cheering, which knows no breaks. On the pitch, Terracina immediately launches into the attack, with the intent of overturning the goal conceded at the “W3 Stadium”. The offensive sorties of the Tigrotti lead to a double advantage for Terracino, thanks to the goals of Curiale (7′) and Bellante (39′), which sent the stadium into raptures. The first forty-five minutes end with Terracina ahead in the result and virtually in the final.

In the second half the curve immediately resumes cheering with the same intensity shown in the first half. The chants are above all for the team and for the city; there is no shortage of those for all-time rivals. In the 74th minute, however, W3 Maccarese closed the gap with Carta, a goal that momentarily propelled the Bianconeri into the final, since in this competition the rule according to which an away goal is worth double is still applied. There Sea Curvedespite the cold shower, he doesn’t give up, but immediately returns to incite the players on the pitch, pushing the team in search of that goal that would be worth qualification.

The efforts of the fans are rewarded after just three turns of the clock. It’s the 77th minute: Camara hits the ball with his head from a cross from Carlini, the visiting goalkeeper manages to block it, but Fioretti pounces on the rebound, putting it into the net. The celebrations are intense, the Terracino public is in ecstasy. The whole team runs to celebrate one of the most important goals in the recent history of the Tyrrhenian club under the curve. In the final minutes the visiting team launches an attack, but the local players manage to control the pressure of their opponents, even coming close to scoring the fourth goal with Pagliaroli, who alone in front of the goalkeeper, on the counterattack, is unable to put the ball in the net.

After six minutes of injury time the final whistle blows, giving the home team access to the final. The Biancocelesti players go to celebrate with the ultras a victory obtained also thanks to the push of the people of Terracina. In the final on 7 February the tigrotti will face UniPomezia, a direct competitor of the Tirreni also in group B of the Lazio Eccellenza for the victory of the tournament.
