Sven-Goran Eriksson has pancreatic cancer

The former Lazio coach, 75, said he collapsed while running and thus discovered he had a stroke and an inoperable tumor

Sven-Goran Eriksson ha un cancro al pancreas. It was the same former Lazio coach and former England manager who revealed it to Swedish radio: “Everyone understood that I wasn’t well, they imagined it was cancer and it is. I have to fight as long as I can“. The Swede, 75 years old, also explained the prognosis given by the doctors: “At best a year or even more, at worst even less. In reality, no one can be sure, it’s best not to think about it. You can somehow trick your brain, think positively and see things in the best way, not get lost in adversity, because this is obviously the greatest of all, but still get out of it something good from this experience.”

Eriksson, who won the title in his career Scudetto with Lazio in 1999-2000 (as well as a Cup Winners’ Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, two Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups) and who held the role of technical director at Romaat the Fiorentina and to Sampdoriarevealed he has inoperable cancer on Swedish radio ‘P1‘: “I suddenly collapsed while I was doing a five kilometer run, after a medical consultation I discovered that I had had a stroke and that I already had a tumor. I don’t know how long, maybe a month, maybe a year.”

Last year Eriksson resigned as sporting director of Karlstad Football due to health problems: “I have chosen to limit my public duties due to health problems which I am investigating,” he said.

During his career Eriksson also won two Swedish championships, a UEFA Cup and a national cup with Gothenburg as well as three Portuguese league titles, a national cup and a Portuguese super cup with Benfica. His experiences also include the role of England coach from 2001 to 2006, one season at Manchester City (2007-08). The last coaching experience in 2019 as coach of the Philippines.
