Some news about Žagar’s recovery process

After a successful performance in the World Cup, helping the Latvian national team win fifth place, Žagar signed a three-year contract with one of the Euroleague giants, Fenerbahce.

This season, the Latvian basketball player was loaned to the Lithuanian club Vilnius “Wolves”, in which he tore the internal lateral ligaments of his left knee.

The 23-year-old basketball player underwent an operation about a week after the injury in Istanbul, and shortly after that he also started rehabilitation in Turkey.

“His table tennis skills are impressive, he is one of the best in our locker room,” Jasikevic said with a smile.

“I’m even more impressed by his positivity. He’s a really nice person. I really hope he succeeds,” the coach continued.

“He is already running and maybe he will be back in the lineup within a month. The great news is that the injury is not as terrible as the doctors thought.”

Jasikevičs expressed confidence that Žagar will return to the field this season. “He’s definitely going to play. He’s not far from coming back.”

In an earlier interview with the newspaper “Sporta Avīze”, Žagars expressed his hope to represent the Latvian national team in the upcoming Olympic Games qualification tournament in Riga this summer.

In the beginning of the season in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL), the point guard participated in four games, spent an average of 22 minutes on the court, stood out with 12 points, three rebounds and five assists.

On the other hand, in the ULEB Eurocup, he was on the field for 23 and a half minutes in one match, scored ten points and assisted four times.

Last season, the Latvian represented another Lithuanian team, ħedainai “Nevežis”, but before that he was in the system of the Spanish club Badalona “Joventut” since 2017.

Part of 2021/2022 Žagara spent the seasons of 2008 in the Braunschweig “Lowen” team of the German basketball league.
