Albert Lamoureux Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we honour the passing of our beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, Albert Arthur Lamoureux. Bert, as he was affectionately known, left us on January 2nd, 2024, after a courageous battle with terminal cancer. We take solace in knowing that he passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Bert’s life was filled with love, joy, and cherished memories. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Arlene, who was the love of his life. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Sarah, as well as his siblings Elmer, Edward, Fred, Gordon, and Florence.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Brad (Cathy) of Vancouver, Tara (Tim) of Salmon Arm, Todd (Gidget) of Edmonton, and Scott (Linda) of Airdrie. Bert was also a proud grandfather to: Miranda (Duncan), Nicole, Stephanie (Jessie), Samantha (Paul), Evan, Mackenzie, Brenna, Tia, and Erica. Additionally, he was blessed with great- grandchildren: Dennis, Isla, West, Cooper, Leven, and Chloe.
Bert was born in St. Boniface, MB and spent his early years in Winnipeg, MB. He had a passion for sports, with baseball being his favorite. In fact, he was part of the high school basketball team that won several Manitoba Provincial Championships. It was through sports that he met Arlene’s brother Wayne, and this led to their long and loving marriage in August 1957.
His career in the insurance industry began with Northern Assurance, where he gained extensive experience in various departments. Bert and Arlene moved to Calgary, Alberta, in November 1958, where he continued with Northern Assurance. Two years later, he was appointed Provincial Manager and later transferred to Edmonton in July 1966 as the Manager for Guardian Insurance. He held this position until his retirement in 1996.
Bert loved the mountains, and he shared his love for skiing and hiking with his family. For the last ten years of their time in Alberta, Bert and Arlene resided in Canmore before eventually settling in Salmon Arm in 2008. It was in Salmon Arm that they discovered their passion for duplicate bridge, which not only provided a challenge but also allowed them to meet wonderful people and create lasting memories.
Bert had an incredible sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. Those who encountered him during his daily walks on the Harbourfront will fondly remember his friendly nature and infectious laughter. In recent years, he enjoyed attending Yankee baseball games, fishing trips, family gatherings, cruises, and winter holidays in Mexico. He was truly an Energizer Bunny, always full of life and enthusiasm. Our family recently celebrated Bert’s 90th birthday in true Lamoureux style, with an abundance of food, fun, and cherished moments. It was a testament to his vibrant spirit and zest for life.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Levens, as well as the compassionate staff at the Shuswap Hospital, for their exceptional care and support. Additionally, we extend our thanks to the incredible and caring staff at Andover Terrace, where our parents spent the last seven years. It was the perfect place for them to call home.
At Bert’s request the family will hold a private celebration of life in Canmore, AB, later in 2024. We kindly request that anyone wishing to leave a note for the family do so through the Bowers website.
During this difficult time, your support and condolences mean the world to us. We find comfort in the memories we shared with Bert and the love he bestowed upon us. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
