Real Madrid and FC Barcelona celebrate in the last minute

Real Madrid barely avoided an embarrassing home defeat and regained the lead in the Spanish football league with a late 3-2 (0-2) win against bottom-placed UD Almeria.

Former Leverkusen player Daniel Carvajal scored the winning goal in the ninth minute of injury time. Real are now two points ahead of Girona and already seven points ahead of FC Barcelona. The Catalans also won late 4:2 (1:0) at Real Betis Sevilla.

Carvajal dusts off

Largie Ramazani with a goal in the first minute of the game and Edgar (43rd minute) gave Almeria a surprising lead against Real before half-time. But then Jude Bellingham (57th) scored with a hand penalty and Vinicius Junior (67th) equalized. When it looked like a draw, Carvajal took a shot after Bellingham hit the post and scored the celebrated winning goal.

In Seville, Barcelona gave up a 2-0 lead. Ferran Torres (21st/48th) got the guests on track. Isco (56th/59th) then scored a quick equalizer before substitute Joao Felix (90th) redeemed Barcelona. Torres made everything clear with his third goal (90th + 2). Barça coach Xavi helped the 16-year-old Pau Cubarsi make his starting eleven debut.
