PSSI tries to compete with foreign teams against the Indonesian U20 national team

KOMPAS.com – PSSI is making efforts to organize matches for the Indonesian U20 national team with teams from abroad in the framework of the second phase of the training camp which will be held from Saturday (30/12/2023) to Sunday (28/1/2024) in Jakarta.

The coach of the Indonesian U20 national team, Indra Sjafri, revealed that in this training camp program, it is planned that there will be a number of trials for the Indonesian U20 national team, including matches against international teams.

“Later we will carry out several trials. Now, PSSI is trying to contact several national teams from other countries to be able to play in Indonesia,” said Indra as quoted by BolaSport.com

Previously, the U20 national team had completed their training camp program in Qatar on Friday (22/12/2023). In the TC, Indra Sjafri expressed his admiration for the performance of the players, most of whom were young players from various competitions, including those who had participated in the 2023 U17 World Cup.

“I was surprised, the players we called were players from the U17 national team yesterday and players born in 2005 and from the EPA competition,” said Indra Sjafri.

“They all have great qualities. Now it’s just a matter of who is the best of the good,” said the 60 year old coach.

Even though there were no trial matches in Qatar, the Indonesian U20 national team held an internal match between the red team and the white team, with the red team winning 1-0 through a goal from Hugo Samir.

The parties involved hope that a good evaluation can be carried out on the players based on this TC, in order to better prepare the Indonesian U20 national team for the 2024 AFF U-19 Cup and the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup Qualification. Indra Sjafri himself is determined to bring his team through to the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile.

“Of course from TC here, we, the coaching team, hope to be able to carry out a good evaluation of the existing players,” said Sjafri.
