NBA Game Roundup: Spurs, Grizzlies, and Warriors in action

Catastrophic at halftime, the Spurs took advantage of the spectacular awakening of Victor Wembanyama for an ultimately insufficient comeback against the Atlanta Hawks, victorious 109 to 99 on Monday.

San Antonio attacked in the worst way this match on Martin Luther King Day, a public holiday in the United States to celebrate the birth of the pastor. After a nightmarish start to the match, the Texans found themselves trailing 69 to 34 at halftime, with no points from Wembenyama.

The 20-year-old Frenchman, still on the bench at the start, came alive on his return to the field to finish with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks.

A one-step dunk accompanied by a foul and a successful throw by Wembanyama, author of a smash festival, brought the Spurs to seven points with less than 5 minutes to play, then to six points after an alley-oop. But San Antonio continued to make a few blunders to end up suffering a 32nd defeat this season (7 victories) and remaining in last place in the Western Association.

“He is a constant presence and threat on the pitch. They used it much better in the second half,” greeted Hawks leader Trae Young, untenable (36 points, 13 assists, 6 rebounds).

The Spurs travel to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.

Draymond Green returns from suspension in loss

The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Golden State Warriors 116-107, the day Draymond Green returned from suspension.

Green played 23 minutes and provided 7 points in the loss. He was suspended indefinitely on December 14 after punching Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic in the face. Green’s suspension ended after 12 games on Jan. 6, but he only returned to action today.

Stephen Curry led his team with 26 points, while Jonathan Kuminga finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

GG Jackson scored a career-high 23 points for the winners, while only Vince Williams scored more with 24 points.

The Grizzlies went on a 10-1 run in the fourth quarter to lead 110-98 with 4 minutes remaining, enough to allow them to regain victory after two straight losses.

Seven Memphis players were sidelined recently due to injuries, including their top five scorers. Jaren Jackson (18 points) and Santi Aldama (11), however, were back after being absent on Saturday.
