announced on departure, Xavi claims to still have the “confidence” of his club

The coach of the Catalan club displays his optimism regarding his continuation while rumors of an eviction multiply.

FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez said on Saturday he still benefits from the “trust” from his club, despite speculation about his possible departure.

On Friday, many Spanish media had nevertheless mentioned a possible dismissal of Xavi in the coming weeks, due to his recent statements, little appreciated by its president Joan Laporta.

The Catalan coach had highlighted the financial difficulties of his club in competing with the big European teams, comparing the situation of Barça to that of its rival, Real Madrid.

“This information does not interest me, (the club) has conveyed its confidence to me. For me, absolutely nothing has changed,” Xavi said at a press conference.

Having become coach of the Blaugranas in November 2021, Xavi, 44, declared in January that he would leave Barça at the end of the season, before a series of good results in April reshuffled the cards and finally pushed him to stay until the end of his contract in June 2025.

“If we have to talk about certain things with the president, we will, but in theory, the situation is the same as three weeks ago”he said on Saturday.

This season, Barça has failed to win a trophy. He can still secure his second place in La Liga, currently four points ahead of third-placed Girona, by beating Rayo Vallecano on Sunday on the 37th and penultimate day.

“I did not feel any player disturbed by the situation, we are focused on the match against Rayo,” added the coach, at the end of a much shorter press conference than usual.
