Matthew Stafford to Face Former Team as Los Angeles Rams Meet Detroit Lions in Primetime Playoff Showdown

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will return to Detroit for a wild-card round matchup against his former team in primetime, with the Lions quarterbacked by Jared Goff, a former Ram. The league announced the Rams and Lions will play Sunday night of the first postseason weekend, the fifth of six games to begin the 2024 NFL playoffs.

Here’s a look at how it all shakes out:

NFC matchups

The Green Bay Packers snagged the final wild-card berth by beating the Chicago Bears for the 10th consecutive time, and their reward is a meeting with the NFC East-winning Dallas Cowboys, who earned the conference’s No. 2 seed with a dominant Week 18 victory over the Washington Commanders.

The third-seeded Lions will play the sixth-seeded Rams, and the No. 5 Philadelphia Eagles will face the No. 4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The San Francisco 49ers secured the NFC’s No. 1 seed, a first-round bye and home-field advantage with a 27-10 win over the Commanders and the Eagles’ 35-31 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 31.

AFC picture

The Baltimore Ravens locked up the AFC No. 1 seed in Week 17, while much of the rest of the AFC awaited Sunday night’s Bills–Dolphins game to finalize the seeding.

Buffalo won to clinch the AFC East and locked up the No. 2 seed, while Miami’s loss dropped it to the No. 6 seed.

The Bills will host the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the Dolphins will travel to Kansas City to face the defending champs. The other AFC playoff game will be the Cleveland Browns at the Houston Texans.
