Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández joined the Dodgers this winter and both have been a dangerous duo. The slugging duo have become friends in the short season and are two of the most dangerous hitters.
Both players have fitted in well with the team, in part thanks to their friendship that overcomes the language barrier.
Beyond his performance on the field of play, Teoscar Hernández recognizes that his job is to understand, learn and improve.
“He understands a lot of English and I understand a lot of English,” says Hernández. “But sometimes I say something and he doesn’t understand it right away, so I have to explain it to him the way I know, but I don’t know if he [lo entiende]. But I think that’s part of our job: to get to know each other, help each other, and just learn. We learn together a language that is not their language or mine.”

The two Dodgers players have started with a great offensive rhythm.
Ohtani has a .370 batting average with 54 hits, 11 home runs, 27 runs RBIs and 31 runs scored in 36 games this season.
Hernández has a batting average of .259 with 37 hits, 9 home runs, 26 runs RBIs and 24 runs scored in 37 games this season.
Both are among the top 10 in RBIs, home runs and have more than 50 runs scored between them.
Teoscar expressed, during an interview with Sports Illustrated, that he wants to learn more about Asian culture and that is why he speaks with Ohtani daily.
“For me it is good to know their culture. I like that. I went there once and now I went to Korea. It is the second time I go to Asia and it is very different. So I’m interested in knowing more about them because I already know a lot about the United States and the Dominican Republic. I want to learn more.”
