Jim Harbaugh Returns to NFL as Head Coach for the Chargers

Jim Harbaugh will return to coaching in the NFL for the 2024 season. According to a report by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chargers have chosen him as their new head coach. The younger Harbaugh will be the replacement for Brandon Staley, who was fired after Week 15 of the 2023 campaign.

Harbaugh spent the last nine years as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. During that period, according to Sports Reference, accumulated 89 wins and 25 losses. He participated in eight Bowls and won two, the Citrus in 2015 and the Rose in 2024. In addition, this year he has just won the College Football Playoff Championship by beating the Washington Huskies.

Within his vast experience as a coach, Harbaugh has only spent six years as a coach in the NFL and four as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. The other two were as quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2002 and 2003.

During his stay with the NFC West, andThe 59-year-old coach posted a 49-22-1 record between regular season and playoffs, and managed to lead the Niners to Super Bowl XLVII. Unfortunately, the Baltimore Ravens beat them.

Jim Harbaugh’s return to the NFL was imminent. Two years ago he was interviewed to fill the vacant head coach position for the Minnesota Vikings and one year ago for the Denver Broncos, who signed Kevin O’Connell and Sean and Payton, respectively.

Harbaugh spent 14 seasons as a player and the last two were spent as quarterback for the Chargers, then of San Diego. With the Californian team he accumulated 4,177 yards with 18 touchdowns and 24 interceptions after participating in 21 games, 17 as a starter.
