Illegal Seizure of State-Owned Maritime Area in Terracina: Coast Guard Takes Action

TERRACINA – On Wednesday 24 January, the military personnel of the Maritime District Office – Coast Guard of Terracina carried out the criminal seizure of a state-owned maritime area of ​​approximately 700 square meters occupied by a seaside complex which remained erected without the necessary qualifications authorizations of a state-owned and construction nature.

The check, in which the factual situation found on site was compared with the authorizations held by the company concessionaire of the establishment, made it possible to ascertain that the artefacts positioned on the beach were authorized to remain there only seasonally; Furthermore, the structures had been set up using the “free construction” regime by means of a simple Notice of Commencement of Work (CILa.), and therefore could remain assembled for a maximum of 180 days after construction.

For staying beyond this deadline, the Consolidated Law on Construction requires the possession of a building permit, which the establishment did not have. On the other hand, the urban planning instruments of the city of Terracina (General Regulatory Plan and Technical Implementation Regulations) prohibit buildings of a permanent nature on the beach, with the exception of the toilet blocks built close to the parapet walls of the seafront.

The Judicial Authority was informed of what was ascertained with a dedicated crime report for violation of the Navigation Code, the Consolidated Building Act and the regulations for the protection of the landscape, without prejudice to the presumption of innocence of the perpetrator of the contested crimes. The activity carried out is part of the constant commitment made by the Port Authority Corps – Coast Guard to protect state maritime property and the marine and coastal environment.
