“In my time there wasn’t so much protest, there were contested matches, but the referees are young and tend to make mistakes. I’m for VAR, it has solved a lot of problems, let’s carry on like this, giving each other a hand: the referees can make a mistake and the players have to calm down, there are scenes that I don’t like. I can’t understand those groups that the players make: they seem studied, prepared, once upon a time there was a sense of respect when you approached the referee. It seems to me all excessive. Why not rethink Paolo Casarin as head of the referees?”. Thus Franco Tancredi, goalkeeper of Roma’s second championship, guest of Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1, on the continuous protests, on and off the pitch, against the referees.


In the last Italian Cup derby Gianluca Mancini invited his teammates not to say goodbye to Orsato: “I don’t know what this attitude can lead to, it’s certainly negative for football, for those who see it and for those who buy it. Milan-Roma. “In the first ten minutes – says Tancredi – I had the feeling that Roma were in the game. Then at the first negative situation, they began to slip defensively. It ended 3-1, but the gap could have been even greater. something is wrong and the club must take note of it: it no longer has a sporting director, it must decide whether to confirm Mourinho or not. There is work to be done, but I am convinced that the club will do it.”


Would you confirm Mourinho? “Here in Rome the fans have shown that they want Mourinho. There are sold outs during the matches, but the important thing is to be able to plan. We need to understand who the sporting director will be, whether Mourinho will be there or not. There is a need of clarity out of respect for the fans, who are always very generous.”


Is Saudi Arabia the new China of the past? Franco Tancredi had an experience in China: “When we went to China, they were at their most organised. Then later, with new realities like Arabia, they were unable to plan”.
