DeShaun Thomas Joins Asvel for the Rest of the Season

Tony Parker announced it in the interview he gave to the newspaper L’Équipe this Sunday morning and it is now official. Asvel has recruited strong winger DeShaun Thomas (32 years old; 2.01 m) until the end of the season, a player formerly with Nanterre (during the 2013-2014 season). The American was released by Joventut Badalone, with whom he averaged 15 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in the Spanish Championship (and 13.4 points and three rebounds in the Eurocup). He will start on Tuesday against Red Star Belgrade in the Euroleague.

In Europe since 2013, Thomas has already played – in addition to Nanterre – at FC Barcelona, Efes Istanbul, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Panathinaikos Athens, Bayern Munich and Milan. At Asvel, he will meet his compatriot David Lighty, with whom he won the 2014 Coupe de France with Nanterre. The two men were also partners at Ohio State University.

Asvel is currently 4th in Betclic Élite and 17th (and penultimate) in the Euroleague. On Saturday, she parted ways with her trainer Gianmarco Pozzecco, a little over two months after his arrival, and replaced him with Pierric Poupet.
