Commission of Inquiry Reveals Reports of Perjury and Non-Reporting of Violence in French Sports Federations

It is on January 16 that the commission of inquiry into the dysfunctions of the federations will present its summary report, the result of six months of hearings concluded on November 23. In total, she will have heard 90 witnesses, including the main leaders of French sport, to try to understand why so many bodies have been faced with scandals in recent years.

Not all interviewees were precise or accurate in their statements. According to The world, the commission of inquiry issued six reports to the courts on December 26 for perjury. Five of them deal with possible non-reporting of sexual and gender-based violence. They concern the president of the French Equestrian Federation (FFE), Serge Lecomte, his ice sports counterpart (FFSG), Gwenaëlle Noury, but also Jean-Luc Rougé (ex-president of the French Judo Federation [FFJDA]), Jean Lapeyre, legal director of the French Football Federation (FFF) and Fabien Canu, director general of Insep.

A seventh name mentioned

Furthermore, Gilles Moretton, head of the French Tennis Federation (FFT), was also the subject of a report according to The world, for possible perjury on financial matters. The ball is now in the court of the Paris prosecutor as to what action to take on his reports. The daily also mentions a seventh name subsequently sent by the commission to the prosecution, that of the president of the French Federation of Kickboxing, Muay Thai and associated disciplines (FFKMDA), Nadir Allouache.

All the people who appeared before the commission of inquiry could correct their statements before December 19. This was the case of Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, who was questioned about her former position as general director of the FFT, held from 2021 to 2022.
