Arthur Fils and Alexandre Muller in the quarter-finals of the Auckland Open

After taking out his compatriot Richard Gasquet in the first round, Arthur Fils did not weaken against the Portuguese Nuno Borges (66th). Carried by a well-established service (71% first ball, 88% points behind his first, 5 aces and no break point to defend), Fils left no chance to an opponent quickly overwhelmed by his striking force (6-2, 6-0).

Qualified for the quarter-finals, Fils will not be the only French representative there. From qualifying, Alexandre Muller (79th) also validated his ticket. Expeditious too, he only needed a little over an hour to dismiss Francisco Cerundolo (22nd) in two short sets (6-1, 6-1). He will face Taro Daniel in the next round, while Son will play Daniel Altmaier.
