The Arjonilla Badminton Club returned to the league competition after two months since their last match. The duel began at 11:00 am on Sunday at the Alicante Technical Center and the match did not start in the best way for Arjonilla. Joan Monroy and Cristina Teruel were defeated in the mixed doubles match against Brandon Zhi Hao and Ana Caballero by 11-5, 11-3 and 11-5.
Arjonilla tied the match in the women’s doubles match, where Laura Foj Thomsen and Anne Fulgsang defeated Ana Ramírez and Nikol Carulla 8-11, 9-11 and 8-11. The men’s doubles were won by the locals since Alicante’s Brandon Zhi Hao and José Luis Martín defeated Joan Monroy and Ernesto Baschwitz 11-6, 11-6, 7-11 and 11-6.
With the overall score at 2 to 1, the first individual matches began and Arjonilla had little margin for error if they wanted to take the three points. The Arjonilleros returned to tie the duel thanks to Tomás Toledano, who defeated Alberto Perals in the first men’s singles match by 7-11, 11-10, 6-11 and 6-11. In the first women’s singles, despite the fact that Arjonilla won the first two games, Alicante knew how to turn the match around. Anne Fulgsang’s tight defeat against Nikol Carulla by 8-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-10 and 11-8.
With the last games left to play, Arjonilla needed to win the remaining two. The women’s singles fell to the Arjonillero side, Laura Foj Thomsen defeated Ana Ramírez by 11-9, 2-11, 3-11 and 4, 11. In the men’s singles, Ernesto Baschwitz was defeated against Miguel Esteve by 11-8, 11-9 and 11-6.
