Ajax Amsterdam’s Summer Mercato Disaster: Club Struggles to Recover With Clean Record and Winter Transfers

The last summer mercato was an absolute horror for Ajax. The club is now trying to pick up some pieces by keeping a clean record.

Ajax Amsterdam brought in many newcomers last summer, but saw very little of them between the lines.

There was also the Georgian Georges Mikautadze, who was taken over from the French Metz for 16 million euros.

The striker, with a history at Seraing, only played nine games for the Dutch club and can now leave again.

He will be loaned to Metz for the rest of the season, but then a mandatory purchase option will follow in June. The amount has not been disclosed. According to Fabrizio Romano, the amount is 10 million euros.

Ajax also wants to make some targeted purchases during the winter mercato. A central midfielder with experience is the absolute priority.
