AFA Suspends San Luis League for Political Intervention in Football Club

The Argentine Football Association decided to suspend the San Luis League for politically intervening in a football club. This position was taken by the Federal Council of the entity, which leaves the first division without a women’s team and without the most popular teams in the province that participate in Federal A.

The AFA’s message is that the statute be respected and there be no political intervention in football clubs. In this way, the affiliation of the Sanluiseña Football League was suspended, therefore its institutions will be out of all competition, as reported by the mother body of Argentine football.

This was triggered after Legal Entities intervened in a club, an act that is statutorily prohibited. The intervention of the provincial State to San Luis FC, a club that achieved promotion to the first division of AFA women’s soccer, led to this measure and also harmed Juventud and Estudiantes, who will not be able to participate in Federal A either.

The interference of justice constitutes “a violation of the principle of non-intervention and independence of its members,” according to the AFA Statute. For this reason, the organization opted for this preventive measure until the situation is regularized. In this sense, on December 29, the AFA had ordered the offending club to carry it out within the next seven business days. Not having answers, he suspended San Luis FC’s participation in both the Federal Cup and the women’s tournament organized by the mother entity of Argentine soccer. The same will happen with Youth and Students.

Likewise, these Federal A teams will also not be able to be part of the divisional meeting scheduled for January 18, where the start date and tournament format will be confirmed. In addition, Juventud could lose its place in the Argentine Cup, where it must face Deportivo Maipú de Mendoza in the round of 32. The rest of the institutions that are part of the Sanluiseña Football League will also not be able to play the Regional Tournament or any other competition organized by the Federal Council, both at the league and club level.
