AC Milan Goalkeeper Mike Maignan Receives Honorary Citizenship After Racist Incident

On the 21st day of Serie A, AC Milan won with the gong on Udinese’s pitch (3-2). But the success of the Lombards was quickly overshadowed by a racist episode against their goalkeeper, Mike Maignan. Victim of insults, the French international decided to leave the pitch to protest against these actions while the 33rd minute of the match was playing. Hailed by its club and selection partners for this strong gesture, the Tricolore received the support of the mayor of Udine this Sunday.

Outraged by the events of the day before, Alberto Felice De Toni decided to offer honorary citizenship to the former last rampart of the Mastiffs, an honorary title granted by a municipality to a person from the country or from outside in sign of support. In a video posted on social networks, the transalpine political representative invited Mike Maignan to lead anti-discrimination initiatives dedicated to schools and children in the capital of Friuli. “Our city is a city for everyone: Udine is not racist and has a long history of hospitality. This is why I personally invited Mike Maignan to Udine to carry out concrete initiatives dedicated to young people, with the support of Fondazione Milan. I will propose to the Municipal Council to confer honorary citizenship on this occasion as well”he declared on his account Instagram.
