A sailing trip around the world with Thomas Coville: “When I leave there, I feel like I’ve won a life”

Of the six sailors entered in the Arkéa Ultim challenge which sets off from Brest this Sunday January 7 (1:30 p.m.), Thomas Coville (55 years old) is the only one to have already completed a solo round-the-world trip on a maxi-trimaran. In 2016, at the time of its record (49 days, 3 hours and 7 minutes), since beaten by François Gabart (42 days 16 hours 40 minutes), “Sodebo Ultim’” did not fly, but the feat was already extraordinary. For years the sailor dreamed of completing a circumnavigation of the planet on a sea giant, alone, facing the vagaries of the oceans and the weather. Seven years later, the attraction is still the same.
