Without giving away a set: Mike De Decker advances to the 2nd round of the World Darts Championship

What Mario Vandenbogaerde failed to do, Mike De Decker did. The Real Deal is the first Belgian to advance to the Darts World Cup. Against a changeable Dragutin Horvat, De Decker did not give away a single set in the first round. However, he started the evening with a strong curse.

His breakout season has been followed up on Ally Pally.

Mike De Decker competed against Dragutin Horvat in the first round of the Darts World Cup. But it would soon become apparent that it was not the German, but he himself, who would become his own worst enemy tonight.

In the past, our compatriot has sometimes struggled with a trust issue. Something that could be encouraged on the big stage of Ally Pally, especially because it is packed with Germans.

But it soon became clear that De Decker has taken steps this season. At the plate, but also in his head. He immediately gave up a break in the first set, but hit back mercilessly and won the three following legs.

When he finally checked out the first set 3-1, he didn’t let out a cry of relief, but a huge curse.

A harbinger of an (even) better sequel from our self-critical compatriot.

He showed himself more and more steadfast, especially when checking out, and never gave the German – who was far too inconsistent himself – the chance to really get into the match.

The verdict: he also won the second (3-1) and third set (3-2), to advance to the second round with a perfect 3-0 victory. There the Latvian Madars Razma – the lowest seed – is waiting for him.
