Venezuelan Slugger Jesús Aguilar Signs with Japanese Team Seibu Lions

Jesús Aguilar seems to have finished his time in the Major Leagues and various Japanese media have indicated that the Venezuelan slugger has signed a contract with the Seibu Lions.

The first baseman hit 114 home runs in his Major League career, in 10 seasons distributed among the Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, Miami Marlins, Baltimore Orioles and finally, the Oakland Athletics.

Aguilar belongs to the Tigres de Aragua in Venezuela, after a good time with the club with which he debuted in the LVBP, the Leones del Caracas.

The first baseman’s problem in staying in the majors has been how vulnerable he is, since he has 622 strikeouts in 725 games played in his MLB career.

Aguilar is expected to be the replacement for Hotaka Yamakawa, who recently signed with the SoftBank Falcons. The terms of the contract have not yet been made public, but it is expected to be for a figure greater than one million dollars.

The Oakland Athletics placed the Venezuelan for assignment last season, ending their relationship with a player whose performance declined as the seasons went by.
