Feliciano Lopez traveled around the world for the yellow felt ball for 26 years.

In 2022, Roger Federer’s farewell outshone the list of players who decided to retire from tennis. But even in the last few months, some players have given up the racket. Here is a first small collection of the year’s farewells.

Feliciano Lopez

At the age of 41, Feliciano Lopez ended his career, which, however, had become increasingly temporary in recent times. The Spaniard, who also worked as a tournament director in Madrid, was a professional tennis player for 26 years. Seven titles on the ATP Tour and eleven further final appearances are in the books at the end of his career. In 2015, Lopez celebrated his highest singles placement with twelfth place, and was also able to celebrate numerous successes in doubles. Lopez played 79 Grand Slams in a row. A value that no one else can demonstrate. After almost 1000 matches on the ATP Tour, there was a farewell in Mallorca in July. Yannick Hanfmann ended the career of a player who for many is part of the ATP Tour’s core inventory.

Jeremy Chardy

Jeremy Chardy was also a long-running favorite in the tennis world. Ten years ago, the Frenchman celebrated his highest ranking of 25th place after reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open. Despite his long career, the 36-year-old was only able to celebrate one title on the ATP Tour. In 2009 in Stuttgart, back then on clay, there was the big trophy. With compatriot Fabrice Martin, Chardy lost to Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies in the Roland Garros final in 2019. After the first round defeat against Carlos Alcaraz, there is now more free time.

Juan Sebastian Cabal und Robert Farah

For some time they were the benchmark in doubles. Cabal/Farah were. In 2019, the two Colombians won the titles at Wimbledon and the US Open. They then topped the world rankings. Robert Farah was subsequently suspected of doping. Corona also stopped the run of success. The really big titles no longer followed. After the US Open, professional tennis was over. Due to their long time together as a couple and their dominance in 2019, Cabal and Farah will certainly not be forgotten.
