The es Puig d’en Valls football field debuts the first protections to avoid serious injuries in Ibiza

This Wednesday the workers finished the installation of protections on the soccer field municipality of es Puig d’en Valls to improve the safety of users and try to prevent collisions with the elements separating the track from the stands that could have serious consequences. This begins to fulfill the commitment made with the family of a young man who suffered a serious injury in a field on the island, news reported by Diario de Ibiza, a medium that has closely monitored these events to provide a response from the administrations. In 2024, the Santa Eulària City Council reports, the rest of the protections will be installed, a procedure that will be put out to tender shortly.

All municipal facilities, indicates the Consistory, comply with the minimum safety distances established by the regulations but given the possibility that injuries of a certain nature could occur, the Santa Eulària City Council committed to the aforementioned family to study what measures are taken. they could adopt and where. Several specialized companies were contacted and one of them, with extensive experience in these interventions, was chosen to make a first appearance in the es Puig d’en Valls field. In this installation it has been considered necessary to only cover the wall that separates the stands and the covered grass tracks since the other sides have greater distances between the field lines and the separation walls.

120 linear meters

In total, about 120 linear meters of low wall have been lined with a foam cover lined with a waterproof canvas so that possible impacts from the players are properly cushioned and the protection can withstand inclement weather. In total it is an action that has cost just over 14,000 euros.

The reasons for hiring this field were, on the one hand, the speed of the procedure in one of the facilities where the greatest risk could exist and, on the other, that it served as a pilot test to be able to analyze the suitability of the materials used before. to apply them on the other tracks.

The intention is next year to hold a joint tender for the other fields, which involve longer coverings and the amounts require another type of contracting procedure to be carried out. The forecast is that between 100,000 and 120,000 euros will be invested.

The other performances will be in Sant Carlos (2 sides), Jesús (3 sides) and Santa Gertrudis (2 sides). In Santa Eulària the distances are greater in all the depths so, a priori, it is not considered necessary to cover any walls.
