Preparations are underway for the start of the City Nature Race of the Lido of Cagliarithe OCR gara (Obstacle Course Race) organized by ASD Run For Joy Sardegnaunder the patronage of the Municipality of Cagliari and in collaboration with Msp Sardegna – promotional body recognized by CONI – and the bathing establishment The beach. Like its “sister” races (the Sea of Villasimius in May and the Wild of Arbatax in September) this 2023 edition of the City, the fourth, has already attracted the participation of hundreds of athletes from both sports associations across the national territory and internationally renowned athletes.

We will meet again, just to name a few, the Belgian and now fond of him contestant of ours race Thibault Debousschere, the Italians Emilio Pagnotta, Andrea Riva and Laura Pagano. Everyone will compete in a journey of 10 km with the overcoming of beyond 30 obstacles in a true personal, athletic and competitive competition to win a place in the ranking also valid for qualification for the 2023 OCR World Championship. In fact, all the races of the Nature Race Series qualify the first 15 women and the first 15 men overall for the final world championship which will be held the first week of October 2024 in California. This is an important recognition that comes from an international organization of global importance and which represents an additional incentive for athletes to achieve the best results and the great satisfaction that this sport is able to offer.

“It’s always a thrill to face our series with the change of pace given by the path we face from time to time. The Cagliari race has become an unmissable event for the numerous Italian and international athletes who have included it in their calendar of challenges – says Pierpaolo Sanna, Manager of the ASD Run For Joy Sardinia – The appreciation for the quality offered in terms of organization and the technical competitive challenge is an unparalleled recognition for us, an incentive to continue working to offer the opportunity to experience a weekend of sport, get to know the other athletes and spend some moments in beautiful places thanks to a competition with international visibility capable of giving satisfaction to both the athletes and the territory.”

“After the two series held this year in Villasimius and Arbax with exciting and evocative routes, we are thrilled at the thought of being able to offer athletes and the public a spectacle like the one expected for the City Nature Race on the Lido of Cagliari – says Simone Corrias, Organizing Committee of the race – The event is a guarantee from an organizational point of view, it ensures notable technical insights thanks to a fascinating and challenging route. We are happy to be able to work on a competition that will enhance the peculiarities of the Cagliari coastline also and above all in the eyes of the many athletes who try their hand at an exciting and engaging sporting performance.”

The route has been renewed thanks to new points of a route that ensures an unparalleled spectacle. It unfolds in a particularly evocative naturalistic setting, in a completely exclusive territory and will touch the symbolic places of the city such as the Poetto, the Sella del Diavolo, Cala Mosca, the Lighthouse and the Fortino, thus enriching the sporting competition with a naturalistic experiential emotion -unprecedented tourism.

The competition consists of two modules: one Hard Race competition dedicated to the most expert athletes and competitive athletes who will have the obligation to overcome obstacles, and a Easy Race dedicated to enthusiasts and families who want to spend a day practicing sport on a route designed specifically for them. Both will have it start and the finish line inside the Il Lido bathing establishment, partner of the event. Fun is guaranteed by the natural and artificial obstacles positioned along the route. The athletes of hard race they will start with three bracelets on their wrists which they will have to try to keep until the end of the race by overcoming all the obstacles; for each obstacle not overcome the judge present will cut a bracelet and the final ranking will be drawn up on the basis of the arrival time and the number of bracelets preserved. As in the past, and with the aim of bringing the regulations as close as possible to those of the OCR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – a race considered the most spectacular of all – the local organizing committee has confirmed the possibility of carrying out the suspended obstacles in two attempts. This means that an athlete, having failed the first attempt, will be able to decide whether to have his bracelet cut or access the only lane dedicated to the second attempt. If the obstacle is failed again, the athlete will have to have his bracelet cut.
